Death & Hollowing

Death in Hy-Souls carries real consequences, just like in Dark Souls.

What Happens When You Die

When you die:

  1. All souls are lost – your soul counter is set to zero
  2. All humanity is lost – your humanity counter is set to zero
  3. You become hollow – your character’s appearance changes
  4. Items drop at your death location – certain items fall where you died

After dying, you remain in the death pose until you click Respawn.

Respawning

When you click Respawn:

  • If you’ve rested at a bonfire, you teleport to the last bonfire you rested at
  • If you haven’t rested at any bonfire, you respawn at the default spawn point
  • If the bonfire you rested at has been destroyed, your respawn point is cleared and you use the default spawn

Hollowing

After dying, your character becomes hollow, visually changing your player model to a withered appearance.

Being hollow has one key restriction: you cannot kindle bonfires while hollow. To kindle, you must first reverse your hollowing.

Reversing Hollowing

To restore your human form:

  1. Rest at any bonfire
  2. Select Reverse Hollowing from the bonfire menu
  3. This consumes Humanity from your counter

Once reversed, you return to your normal appearance and regain the ability to kindle bonfires.

You’ll become hollow again the next time you die, so make sure to use your humanity wisely.

Items That Drop on Death

The following items are dropped at your death location:

  • Consumable soul items (Soul of a Skeleton Undead, etc.)
  • Humanity Essence
  • Concentrated Humanity
  • Homeward Bones
  • Metal bars crafted at the bonfire

Items that are not dropped on death:

  • Estus Flask (stays with you)
